Who is John Wijtenburg?

AND WHY SHOULD I KNOW HIM?

I’m a husband, father, and real estate enthusiast. My career started in the U.S. House of Representatives working on a diverse portfolio of issues while I pursued my graduate degree. Since then, I’ve been an economist on Fannie Mae’s credit loss mitigation team, commercial real estate broker, and hotel acquisitions and asset management leader. Today, I earn my living as Vice President of Asset Management and Investor Relations for a boutique real estate investment and development company. Hotel Investor Toolbox is my passion project.

A passion for real estate investing and individual empowerment drove me to start Hotel Investor Toolbox in 2018. I spent the better part of a decade sourcing, underwriting, closing, and executing on hotel investments. This included more than $275 million in transactions of hotels ranging from 50 to 500 rooms. Hotel Investor Toolbox represents a growing compilation of everything that I wish I had when I was starting in hotel investing back in 2012.

My education in hotel acquisitions and underwriting consisted of connecting hard to find dots in an undefined universe starting in 2012. I had a solid foundation in analytics and business development, but I was still mostly wandering blindly to learn all the nuances of hotel deal making.

One day, I heard an aphorism that struck me hard…

“There’s never a market bad enough to prevent a good deal, nor a market good enough to prevent a bad deal.”

This no excuses mindset infected me, and I set off to inspire others to become the best version of themselves. My ultimate vision for Hotel Investor Toolbox is to create a hotel investment platform that empowers emerging hotel investors with education and capital to build the hotel investment business of their dreams.
